Emily Feigenberg joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a Clinical Supervisor and independently licensed clinical Psychotherapist in June 2024.
Emily is a seasoned clinician with a decade of experience providing therapy within various populations. Despite grappling with a learning disability during her formative academic years, Emily's transformative encounter in one of her earliest sociology classes at Clark University ignited her passion for social work. Immersed in a dynamic learning environment, she discovered a profound connection to the field as the curriculum guided students through immersive experiences across various societal landscapes. This pivotal moment propelled her towards a concentration in Race and Ethnic Relations, enriching her comprehension of the intricate interplay between societal structures and individual realities.
With a solid foundation laid through years of dedicated service as a case worker and program director within community support initiatives, Emily was compelled by a fervent desire to integrate her practical expertise with a more comprehensive understanding of human experiences. This led her to pursue a master's degree in social work from Simmons University, where she honed her skills and broadened her perspective to effectively address both the tangible needs and holistic well-being of those she serves.
Emily's professional journey has been marked by a commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of marginalized communities. Throughout the trajectory of her career, she has predominantly served low-income individuals burdened by a myriad of adversities. These adversities range from acute and chronic trauma, sexual abuse, family conflict, immigration-related trauma, racial trauma, and generational trauma to intellectual and physical disabilities, attachment issues, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and women's concerns. She spent the last eight years working with individuals dealing with these multifaceted stressors as well as Epilepsy and/or psychogenic seizures. An artist herself, in her private practice she also has a particular interest in and history working with populations who have pursued lives in the arts (having worked with many actors and musicians in NYC).
In her clinical practice, Emily seamlessly integrates her academic knowledge with her therapeutic skills to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive care to her clients. She believes in the importance of fostering an inclusive, affirming environment where individuals feel empowered to explore their identities and experiences without judgment. With a dedication to lifelong learning and growth, Emily remains abreast of the latest research and therapeutic modalities. Over the past few years she has deepened her expertise through completing a year long certification training at the Psychoanalytic Psychodynamic Study Center in NYC.
Emily's commitment to professional development extends beyond her clinical practice. She has provided training and supervision to junior clinicians for several years, finding immense fulfillment in the collaborative process of learning and growth. In addition to her work at CICA as a clinician and supervisor, Emily continues to foster her own successful private practice, where she provides specialized care to individuals seeking support in navigating life's challenges.
Emily's path as a clinician is marked by her steadfast dedication to comprehending every person who seeks her guidance, delving into their story, their struggles, their strengths, and their aspirations. She firmly upholds the conviction that beneath every action lies a quest for safety, deserving recognition and validation before being transformed into a more wholesome and genuine approach to fulfilling one's needs.
She holds the conviction that enduring well-being is intricately tied to the bond forged between client and therapist. Her therapeutic approach begins with a comprehensive assessment, delving into the client's past and present experiences to unearth underlying factors contributing to their current struggles. The relationship between clinician and client is used to practice the skills the client seeks to incorporate into their personal relationships and increase the client’s sense of safety and confidence. Through a collaborative partnership built on trust, transparency, and mutual empathy, she empowers clients to navigate their personal relationships with newfound confidence and a heightened sense of security.
Fun fact: Emily lived in NYC for the past 8 years and managed to avoid the subway for the past 5, riding her bike wherever she went! She is an avid lover of exploring new areas by bike, creating art out of found objects, and finding hidden gems wherever she lives.
