Caroline Steele, LCSW

pronouns: she|her|hers

Caroline joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a Psychotherapist July 2024.

Caroline earned her Master of Social Work with a Specialization in Trauma, Violence and Justice from Boston University School of Social Work. Through her specialization, Caroline developed a strong culturally competent and trauma-informed lens. She utilizes a strengths-based perspective and recognizes the interconnectedness of people and their environment. Fostering a warm, inclusive, and affirming space for her clients, Caroline implements an eclectic therapeutic approach - because therapy isn’t one size fits all! - rooted in concepts and techniques from evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, all while remaining flexible and adaptable to meet each client’s unique needs.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Caroline attended Tulane University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Starting in high school, she worked at a local veterinary hospital and became a full time staff member after graduating from university. After almost a decade in veterinary medicine, Caroline switched gears and started on her path towards social work. She realized that while she loved animals, her true passion was providing emotional support and helping the human family members navigate difficult and often complex situations. One day, Caroline hopes to combine her love of animals and social work by incorporating animal-assisted therapy into her practice.

“I often tell my clients that they are the ones driving the car, I’m just in the passenger seat making sure we don’t go off the road (and if you want to go off roading, let’s do it but I’ll just make sure we’re wearing seatbelts).”
— Caroline Steele, LCSW

Caroline’s compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that all clients are the experts of their own lives. Caroline has experience working with individuals with acute and complex trauma histories including but not limited to sexual violence, child abuse, intimate partner violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence. She also has clinical experience working with those struggling with attachment and relationship issues, chronic illness, ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and family conflicts. She is especially passionate about her work with young adults navigating life transitions and exploration of their gender expression, sexuality, and/or relationship dynamics.

Caroline strongly values the therapeutic relationship and is committed to ensuring her sessions are a safe space for her clients to heal, grow, and live their most authentic lives.

Fun Fact: Caroline spent years fostering dogs and cats but became a proud foster fail in 2020 when she adopted her two senior, toothless chihuahuas named Heather and Holly. She affectionately calls them “The Bugs”, nicknamed so because they are total cuddle bugs! The Bugs excel at their favorite activities of sleeping, eating, and sleeping some more.
