Katherine (Kate) Chaikovsky joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a clinical psychotherapist intern in November 2021. Kate is offering individual therapy under the guidance of independently licensed CICA staff, including weekly supervision with Lisa Garcia, LMHC and supplementary support from Raihaan Attawala, LMHC.

Kate seeks to provide a warm and compassionate environment where individuals, couples, and families feel comfortable exploring their whole selves, relationship to others, and ability to contribute to society. She specializes in working with people experiencing stress and anxiety, chronic health conditions, and family or relationship difficulties. Her approach focuses on leveraging client strengths, increasing connection to the body, exploring relationship patterns, and providing concrete tools to help manage life’s stressors. Kate aspires to provide all clients with a safe space by emphasizing trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and anti-oppressive practice. She is especially passionate about working with clients in the LGBTQIA+ community.

“No individual exists in a vacuum -
in order to understand ourselves we must look at our relationship to others, our community and society.”
— Kate Chaikovsky

Kate has experience with Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Liberation Health and Mindfulness. She is also currently training in Trauma Informed Somatic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Kate attended Vanderbilt University where she earned her B.A. in Sociology, with a concentration in Health, Environment, Population and Migration, as well as a minor in Studio Art. Kate loves to bring her study of society and culture into her practice by helping clients understand how the systems that we interact with on a daily basis can have a substantial effect on our mental health. Kate enjoys incorporating creative modalities such as art or music as tools for introspection and creative development. Prior to pursuing a career in social work, Kate worked as an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher and in the nonprofit world. She enjoys bringing this experience into her current practice by providing education on mental health, as well as therapy for adolescents and young adults.

Kate is currently completing her final year of her MSW at Columbia School of Social Work and is completing her clinical training at CICA. Kate is passionate about using her time in training to provide all clients affordable care at a significantly reduced rate. Kate looks forward to ensuring a high quality of care under the supervision of expert clinicians Lisa Garcia, LMHC and Eden Brenner, LICSW.

Fun Fact: Kate is currently launching a podcast called All Work is Social Work.
