Madelyn Brunvand, LCSW

pronouns: she|her|hers

Madelyn Brunvand joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a psychotherapist in September 2023.

Madelyn uses an integrated, systemic approach to mental health that views people within the many relationships, communities, and systems that impact how they interact with the world. She incorporates cultural sensitivity and celebrates the multitude of identities in each client. In the therapeutic relationship, Madelyn values mutual respect and commitment to taking meaningful action to engage existing coping skills and supports while discovering and implementing additional strategies and resources.

Her favorite part of being a mental health practitioner is hearing clients say they are proud of themselves for the growth they have achieved through their work within and outside of the therapeutic setting, and she looks forward to continuing to walk with clients as they discover this internal confidence.

“I believe you possess the resilience and capacity required to make meaningful, lasting changes in your life —

I offer supportive, affirming therapy that will empower you to take those steps toward fulfillment.”
— Madelyn Brunvand, LCSW

Madelyn’s goal in therapy is for her clients to find empowerment and affirmation within themselves. While she works with clients to grow their support networks, she believes that the most lasting and meaningful validation comes from within. Practicing techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing, Madelyn works with her clients in an empathic and compassionate manner that meets the client where they are and sees their potential for growth.

Madelyn’s experience providing short-term, solution-focused therapy has strengthened her ability to employ a strengths-based approach that centers mental health treatment around her clients’ goals and priorities, regardless of the duration of the therapeutic process. She has worked with a diverse group of clients to treat adjustment disorder, anxiety, depression, and postpartum mood concerns. Madelyn has a particular interest and speciality in working with pregnant and postpartum patients, and brings important concepts such as coping with life transitions, communication, and boundary-setting to her work with every client.

Madelyn attended University of Michigan where she earned her B.A. in Sociology and Social Work. She continued her studies at University of Michigan by completing her Master of Social Work. During her time in the M.S.W. program, Madelyn studied on the Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse pathway, gaining skills and experience in treating a wide variety of clients in an interpersonal, talk therapy setting. She also worked as a Behavioral Health intern, providing case management and individual therapy services for patients at Trinity Health’s OB/GYN department.

Fun Fact: Madelyn developed a great passion for college sports during her time at University of Michigan. While not an athlete herself, Madelyn’s ideal weekend includes donning her maize and blue to root for the Wolverines in any and all sporting endeavors!
